The UKP Lab at the Technical University of Darmstadt is offering a fully funded PhD or postdoc position to contribute to a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research project focused on agentic LLMs for educational technology.
About the Project
You’ll be working on a real-life, user-facing platform designed to enhance Human-AI collaboration in writing and grading complex documents. This system supports reasoning, planning, and intelligent assistance within teaching and learning environments.
The position centers on a custom-built, research-driven platform, currently in active use for software development, data collection, and academic instruction. You’ll play a key role in driving the platform’s research, engineering, and strategic growth.

Responsibilities
- Develop and integrate agentic LLM frameworks for educational applications
- Build and improve platform architecture (full-stack)
- Oversee data annotation and dataset creation
- Design and support user studies
- Write and present scientific publications
- Manage software projects and student contributors
- Collaborate with international research partners
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Excellent academic degree in Computer Science, NLP, AI, HCI, or related fields
- Strong skills in JavaScript, ideally with experience in Vue.js and Node.js
- Solid background in full-stack development and software engineering
- Proactive, organized, and communicative
- Comfortable working with complex codebases and designing innovative tech solutions
