In this project, we are seeking a highly motivated researcher interested in applying state-of-the-art AI techniques—including Deep Learning, Causality, Graph Neural Networks, Explainable AI, and Physics-aware Machine Learning—to model Earth as an interconnected system.
Your mission will be to develop Copernicus Foundation Models and graph-based Earth representations, addressing key socio-environmental challenges such as:
- Clean energy transition
- Biodiversity
- Food security
- Causal Earth system process modeling under climate change
Project 2: Multimodal Foundation Models for Earth Monitoring
Positions: PhD, Postdoc Fellow, Scientific Programmer/Data Manager
Join us in advancing next-generation Foundation Models (FMs) designed for robust generalization and reasoning over multimodal, spatio-temporal data. This research aims to elevate the transferability and real-world applications of AI in Earth system monitoring.
You’ll tackle:
- Multimodal learning challenges
- Spatio-temporal sequence modeling
- Integration of environmental data with causal and physically-grounded insights
Project 3: Trustworthy & Interpretable AI for Scientific Discovery
Positions: 1 PhD + 1 Postdoc
This project is ideal for researchers passionate about trustworthy AI and scientific discovery. We aim to blend domain knowledge with AI to uncover causal relationships in climate, geoscience, and socio-economic systems.
Focus areas include:
- Climate model parameterization
- Biophysical parameter modeling
- Societal impacts of climate change
- Explainable and interpretable AI techniques
Why Join ISP?
