The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is inviting applications for two LSE Fellowships in Statistics within its Department of Statistics. These positions are fixed-term appointments for two years, starting on 1 September 2025, with the possibility of extension for an additional year.

Role Overview

The appointed Fellows will contribute to both teaching and research in statistics and/or data science, particularly in areas relevant to the social sciences. Teaching responsibilities include delivering courses in statistical theory, applied statistics, and data science, including programming, to students from both statistics and social science backgrounds. In addition to teaching, the Fellows are expected to engage in research activities and contribute to the department’s research culture and intellectual life.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates should possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of statistics and data science, along with a successful track record in these fields. Essential qualifications include relevant teaching experience and the ability to teach statistical theory, applied statistics, and data science to a diverse student body. Candidates should have, or be near completion of, a PhD in Statistics, Data Science, or a related field by the start date of the appointment. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a developing, high-quality research record, a well-developed strategy for future research, excellent communication skills, and the ability to provide effective mentoring and support to students.

Application Details

  • Salary: £42,679 to £51,000 per annum, with potential to progress to £54,730 per annum.
  • Start Date: 1 September 2025.
  • Application Deadline: 25 May 2025 (23:59 UK time).
  • Eligibility Note: Applicants who have already been employed as an LSE Fellow for three years in total are not eligible to apply
